How do I know what's actually working in my career?

You say you can't tell what works. Look closer: you haven't tried enough things to find out. That isn't confusion. It's inexperience, wearing confusion as a mask. No one discovers what works by sitting still and thinking about it. You act, you watch what happens, you adjust. The people who seem to 'just know' have simply failed more times than you've attempted anything. You have real power here: the power to choose one thing to test this week. You do not have the power to guarantee it works. Stop waiting for a certainty that will never arrive before you act.

This is mostly a doing problem — the person needs a push to act and a way to read the results, not a theory about careers.

What’s really going on

You don't know yet because you haven't tested anything — you've only wondered. Wondering never tells you what works. Pick one small action, do it for two weeks, then look hard at what actually happened. What works reveals itself through trial, never through thought alone. Choose your test today.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A movePick one specific action you can take this week — send one message, apply to one role, ask one person for direct feedback.
A moveSet a two-week deadline before you act. Do the thing. Do not judge it before the deadline arrives.
A moveWrite down what you expect to happen before you start. Compare it afterward to what actually happened.
A moveWhen something fails, name exactly what failed — the approach, the timing, the audience. Not yourself.
A moveTry again with one change only. Track what's different between attempts, nothing else.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A written record of what you tried and what happened — evidence, not guesses.
  • Less anxiety about finding the 'right' path, because you're testing instead of predicting.
  • A shorter, sharper list of things worth doing, built from what actually worked.
  • The habit of judging your career by results, not by how you feel about it.
