My copy works, but I don't know why. How do I fix that?
You write a line, and it works. The client is pleased, the numbers move. You write another line the same way, and it falls flat. You can't explain the difference — you just know one felt right. This is not a talent problem. You already have enough talent; the work proves it. What you lack is a method you can repeat on command, instead of hoping the right words find you again. That is fixable. Stop asking whether you have the gift. Start asking what you actually did, line by line, the last time it worked — and do that on purpose, every time.
You don't lack skill — you lack a name for what you're doing right. Every time copy lands, something specific caused it: a word, a structure, a promise. Find that cause, write it down, and use it on purpose next time. That is the whole discipline. Feel is not a method.
What changes unlock by starting
- You can explain why a piece of copy works, in one sentence, before you send it.
- You check your draft against a method you trust, instead of guessing.
- Your results grow more consistent, because you no longer depend on mood or luck.
- You can teach what you do to someone else — proof that you actually know it.
