What's Mine to Carry Between the Company and the Customer?

You stand in the middle. The company sets the policy. The customer feels the result. When something breaks, both sides look at you, and you start absorbing blame that was never yours to hold. Here is the honest split. Your words, your effort, your fairness in the moment — these are yours. The price, the policy, the delay, the product's flaws — these are not yours. You did not make them. You cannot fix them by feeling guilty about them. The work is to tell the difference, every single day, and to stop paying for debts you did not create.

What’s really going on

You are responsible for your own honesty, your own effort, and the choice in front of you right now. You are not responsible for the company's failures or the customer's disappointment. Do your part well. Let the rest belong to whoever actually holds it. Stop carrying what was never yours.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A moveBefore you apologize to a customer, ask: am I answering for my own action, or absorbing the company's failure as if it were my character?
A moveWhen anger comes at you, name out loud (in your head) what part belongs to the product or policy, and what part is actually yours to own.
A moveWrite down three things today that are fully in your control — your tone, your honesty, your effort — separate from whether the customer leaves happy.
A moveWhen policy blocks decency, do what decency allows inside your role, then report the conflict upward. That is the edge of your power, not your failure.
A moveAt the end of each day, name one thing you carried that was never yours. Set it down before you go home.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You stop absorbing blame that belongs to the company's decisions.
  • You can say 'that's not mine to fix' without guilt.
  • Customers trust you more because you're honest, not because you overpromise.
  • You leave work each day without carrying someone else's failure home.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
