When you can't disconnect from work

You bring the laptop on every family trip, check email at dinner, keep one eye on Slack through the weekend. You're physically present and mentally at work, and the people around you have learned they're competing with a screen. You can't seem to put it down, even when nothing's on fire.

What’s really going on

The inability to disconnect isn't about the volume of work — it's about what unplugging threatens. Always-on feels like control, indispensability, safety; going dark feels like something might break, or like you'd have to just be present, which is its own exposure. We look at what the always-on is protecting you from, and rebuild the capacity to actually leave — because presence you're never fully in isn't presence at all.
