Where does my judgment end and the AI's generation begin?

You open the tool, you get ten drawings in the time it used to take to make one. Something in you relaxes. Something else goes quiet. You can't tell anymore which parts came from your eye and which came from the machine's guess. This isn't a sign that your judgment is gone. It is a sign that you stopped practicing the small act of noticing. Judgment doesn't disappear when it goes unused for an afternoon. It just stops being visible to you — and what you can't see, you start to fear. The work here is not to decide whether you trust AI. It is to rebuild a habit: catching yourself in the act of choosing. Do that enough times and the line reappears, plain as day.

The confusion is partly conceptual, but the actual fix is a repeatable habit, so the page leans toward practice over explanation.

What’s really going on

It doesn't end — you've just stopped marking the moment you choose. Every output the machine gives you passes through a decision: keep, cut, change, reject. That decision is yours. The fix isn't philosophical. It's a habit: name your choice out loud, every time, before you move on.

A moveAfter each AI pass, before you accept anything, say or write down the one reason you're keeping it.
A movePick one project. Tag every piece 'mine' or 'machine's' as you go, even roughly.
A moveWhen you feel the pull to accept something just because it's fast, stop. Ask what you would have made instead.
A moveEnd each session with one sentence: what did I decide today — not what did the tool produce.
A moveSet a rule: nothing leaves your hands without one deliberate change you made, however small.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You can point to the specific decisions you made in any AI-assisted piece.
  • The fear of 'losing your eye' fades, because you're using it visibly again.
  • Your work improves, because you stop passively accepting good-enough results.
  • You build a habit you can repeat, instead of chasing a feeling of control.
