Why am I stuck between protecting my team and serving the company?

You feel it every day: a call that helps the business seems to hurt your people, and a call that helps your people seems to hurt the business. You've named this a war between two sides, and you've made yourself the battlefield. Look closer. The company is not one voice demanding one thing. The employees are not one voice demanding one thing. Most days, what looks like a clash is really a question nobody has answered yet — and you've been answering it alone, in your head, over and over, as if that's the only place it can be decided. You don't carry this by yourself, unless you choose to. Your team, your peers, whoever shares this weight with you — they see parts of the problem you can't see from where you stand. Bring the conflict into the room instead of carrying it in your chest.

The core error is a false frame, not a lack of facts, so most of the page is coaching action, not teaching theory.

What’s really going on

The conflict isn't between the company and your people. It's inside you, because you've made yourself the only one holding both sides. Put the tension on the table with your team instead of carrying it alone, and choose the next right action — not the perfect, permanent resolution.

A moveWrite down the one specific decision in front of you this week — not the general 'company vs employees' war, the actual choice.
A moveBring that decision to your team or a peer this week, in the open, instead of resolving it alone in your head.
A moveAsk the people affected what they actually need, instead of deciding for them what they need.
A moveSort the decision: what part is truly yours to make, and what part belongs to someone else? Stop carrying what isn't yours.
A moveChoose today's action, not a lifetime settlement. You don't have to end the tension — only move it forward.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You stop carrying the conflict alone; your team shares the weight of it.
  • You decide faster, because you're choosing today's action, not solving an unsolvable war.
  • You see most 'conflicts' are specific unanswered questions, not two enemies facing off.
  • Your team trusts you more, because the tension is visible and shared, not hidden inside you.
