Why am I the one everyone dumps their problems on?

Somewhere along the way, you became the one who holds things together. People bring you their fear, their grief, their confusion — and you take it, because you can, and because it feels wrong to refuse. You call this service. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it is only a habit no one has questioned. Your team sees this too. They watch you absorb what should be shared, and most say nothing — because it is easier to let you carry it. This is not loyalty. It is a quiet agreement that costs you and protects no one. The work is not to feel less, or to go cold. It is to decide, with the people around you, what belongs to you and what does not. You cannot hand back a weight you have never named out loud.

The problem is understood well enough already — what's missing is the practice of naming limits and handing weight back, so guidance leads.

What’s really going on

You did not fall into this role. You chose it, one yes at a time. The fix is not to care less — it is to decide, out loud, with your people, what is actually yours to hold. Name the limit this week. Say it to them directly. Nothing changes until you do.

A moveList every task, call, and worry you've taken on this month that was never yours to begin with.
A movePick one item from that list. Hand it back this week — name, specifically, who will carry it instead.
A moveTell your team plainly: 'I can hold this. I cannot hold that.' Do not soften it into a joke.
A moveSet a fixed time each week when you are reachable for this role, and a time when you are not. Say it out loud.
A moveAsk your pod directly: who else could carry this — and why has no one asked them yet?

What changes unlock by starting

  • A shorter, named list of what you actually carry.
  • At least one responsibility handed back to someone else, in the open.
  • A team that knows your limits because you stated them, not because you broke.
  • Less quiet resentment, because the agreement is now spoken instead of assumed.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
