Why can't I handle the complex turbine overhauls yet?

You can service most turbines. That is not nothing — it is real skill, earned. But the complex overhauls still beat you, and you feel it every time one comes up. That gap is specific. Name it instead of dreading it. Here is the honest part: the overhaul is not one skill. It is a chain of smaller skills, and somewhere in that chain is the link you have not forged yet. You cannot fix "the whole overhaul." You can only fix the one step that actually trips you. Stop asking whether you are "good enough" for complex work. That question flatters your fear and tells you nothing useful. Ask instead: which step, exactly, do I not yet control? That question you can answer today.

The gap is mostly a matter of missing procedural knowledge on specific steps, but closing it also requires a deliberate practice routine, so teaching and coaching carry nearly equal weight.

What’s really going on

You are not defeated by the overhaul. You are defeated by treating it as one giant task instead of many small ones. Break it into its parts. Master each part on its own. Then put them back together. This is not a talent you lack — it is repetition you have not yet done.

A moveList every sub-system in the overhaul, in order, and mark the ones you have never fully owned.
A movePick the single step that scares you most. Do it ten times under someone who already does it well, before you move to the next step.
A moveAfter every attempt, write the procedure in your own words — not the manual's words. If you cannot, you do not yet know it.
A moveFind one person who performs this overhaul cleanly and ask to shadow their next three jobs, start to finish.
A moveAfter each failed attempt, write exactly where it broke down. Not 'I struggled' — the precise moment and the precise cause.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You can name the exact step that defeats you, instead of feeling vague dread about 'complex overhauls.'
  • You complete one step cleanly that you could not do cleanly before.
  • You stop seeing the overhaul as a single wall and start seeing it as a list.
  • You have a method you can reuse on the next hard overhaul, not just a memory of this one.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
