Why can I handle most turbines but not the big overhauls?

You can service most turbines alone. That is real skill, earned, not luck. The overhauls are different — more steps, more parts moving at once, less room for a guess to go unnoticed. It is not strange that they defeat you. It would be strange if they did not, yet. Here is what you are actually doing when you say "the complex overhauls defeat me": you are comparing your worst day on the hardest job to your best day on the easy ones. That comparison flatters nothing and teaches you nothing. Drop it. The overhaul is not one skill. It is many small skills stacked in order, done with other people watching the same clock. Your job, and your pod's job, is to find which link in that chain is actually weak — not to feel bad about the whole chain.

Closing the gap needs real technical sequencing knowledge, but turning that knowledge into team performance under pressure is a coaching problem.

What’s really going on

You are not failing at overhauls. You have not yet broken them into parts small enough to master one at a time. Stop measuring yourself against the whole job. Choose the one step in the sequence you do not yet own, and drill that with your pod until it is boring.

A moveWith your pod, write out the full overhaul as a list of discrete stages — not the whole job, the stages.
A moveEach person names, out loud, the one stage where they slow down or hesitate. No one is allowed to say 'all of it.'
A movePick the single weakest stage shared by the most people. Drill only that stage next shift, under no time pressure.
A moveAfter the drill, have each person state one specific thing that changed. 'Felt better' does not count — name the action.
A moveAssign one person per stage as the one others check with mid-overhaul. Stop treating the overhaul as one person's test.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You can name the exact stage of an overhaul where your skill actually breaks down, instead of calling the whole job hard.
  • Your pod has a shared map of who is strong where, so no one is guessing alone under pressure.
  • The next overhaul takes one fewer unplanned stop, because the weak link got drilled before the job, not during it.
  • You stop treating 'overhauls defeat me' as a fact about you and start treating it as a short list of fixable gaps.
