Why do I only catch the next sale sometimes, not every time?

You notice the opening sometimes. Other times it passes you by. You call this inconsistency a flaw in your instinct, and you wait for the feeling to return. This is an excuse dressed as self-knowledge. The truth is simpler and less comfortable. You have never written down, in plain terms, which needs follow which. You carry a rough sketch in your head, and a sketch cannot be checked, shared, or improved. Your team has the same gap, each person guessing alone. This is fixable, and it is fixable together. A written map of needs does not depend on mood or memory. Build it once as a group, and every member of your pod can use it the same way, on the same day, without waiting for instinct to show up.

The fix requires a short lesson in mapping adjacent needs, but the real work is the repeated practice of checking the map and pitching from it.

What’s really going on

You lack a map, not talent. Build one. List what each type of customer already buys, then write down what need comes next for that type. Stop waiting for a feeling. Check the list before every conversation. A system beats instinct, every single time.

A moveWith your pod, list your five most common customer types in one sitting, no more than ten minutes.
A moveFor each type, write the one adjacent need that shows up most often — not every possible one, just the most common.
A moveBefore your next ten customer conversations, check the list first. Do not rely on feeling the moment.
A moveAfter each of those ten, report back to your pod: did the list work, did it miss, what would you change.
A moveRevise the list together weekly. Treat it as a living document, not a finished one.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A written, shared map of customer types and their adjacent needs.
  • A habit of checking the map before pitching, instead of waiting for a feeling.
  • Fewer missed openings, because the team catches what any one person alone would miss.
  • A weekly rhythm with your pod for testing and sharpening the map.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
