Why do the big, multi-source pulls still eat my whole day?

You can ask one question and get an answer in seconds. So why does the report that needs five sources still eat the whole afternoon? The delay was never in the asking. It is in the stitching. Who checks which source. What order you trust them in. Who decides the pull is actually finished. Your pod has not agreed on any of this out loud. So each person re-derives it alone, every time, and calls the delay complexity. That is not complexity. That is an unmade decision, repeated by a committee of one, over and over. Decide it once, together, and write it down. Then the next pull is fast for a reason you can name.

The fix is a simple teaching point — ownership and a definition of done — but the hard part is coaching the pod to actually commit to it instead of re-deciding every time.

What’s really going on

The tool was never the slow part. A single question is fast now. What is slow is your pod deciding who owns which source, what order to trust them in, and what counts as done. Fix that division of labor once, together, and the pulls compress. The query was never the bottleneck.

A moveGather the pod and list every source your last three multi-source pulls touched.
A moveAssign one standing owner per source type, not a new owner per project.
A moveWrite one sentence that defines 'pull complete' and post it where the pod works.
A moveTime the next pull against the last one. Say the gap out loud at the retro.
A moveCut any step that survives only because 'we've always done it that way.' Ask who it serves now.

What changes unlock by starting

  • The pod agrees on source ownership before the next complex pull, not during it.
  • Multi-source pulls get a written 'done' line instead of a gut feeling.
  • Time-to-complete drops because the same decisions stop getting re-litigated.
  • The team can say, honestly and specifically, where the hours actually went.
