Why doesn't anyone notice the work it took to find the real need?

You and your team dig past what the customer said they wanted, down to what they actually need. That digging is real work. It takes hours no one else watches. Then the solution ships, and only the solution gets praised. The digging vanishes, as if it never happened. You feel robbed, and the resentment builds quietly, meeting after meeting. That resentment is telling you something true: you have let the work stay invisible. Whether others notice it without being shown — that is not in your power. Whether you show it to them — that is.

The core failure is a missing habit — showing the work — so the page should mostly coach action, with a little teaching on why visibility doesn't happen on its own.

What’s really going on

No one owes you credit for work they cannot see. If the groundwork matters, make it visible yourself — show it to your team before you show them the solution. Stop waiting to be noticed and choose, today, to narrate the work out loud.

A moveWrite the real need you uncovered in one sentence. Send it to your team before you build anything.
A moveAt your next meeting, spend two minutes on what you ruled out, not just what you found.
A moveAsk your pod to name, out loud, the discovery work they do that no one else sees either.
A movePut the groundwork first when you present, every time. Stop burying it as an aside.
A movePick one teammate this week. Ask them how they want their hidden work noticed. Then do it.

What changes unlock by starting

  • Your team starts asking what you found, not only what you built.
  • You stop waiting for credit and start the habit of showing your work as you go.
  • Your pod gets better at spotting each other's invisible labor, not just your own.
  • The resentment loosens, because the work is finally seen — by you, first, then by others.
