Why doesn't anyone notice the work that holds things together?
You hold the organization together. Meetings run. Deadlines land. People do not fall through the cracks, because you catch them first. When everything goes right, it looks like nothing happened at all. That is the whole point of your work. It is also the wound. You want applause for the fire that never started. But no one claps for an explosion that did not occur. This is not an injustice done to you. This is the nature of the work itself — invisible when it succeeds, visible only when it fails. You knew this on the day you took it on. So examine the resentment honestly. Either this work is worth doing without praise, or it is not worth doing at all. You cannot have it both ways — invisible labor and visible reward. Decide which one you actually want, and stop asking the world to hand you both.
You did this work to prevent disaster, not to be seen. Invisible work is invisible by design — that is what makes it good. The resentment is not proof of injustice. It is proof you are waiting for credit from people who cannot see what never happened. Stop waiting. Choose differently.
What changes unlock by starting
- You stop waiting for recognition that was never coming from that source.
- You keep a private record of your own value, independent of others' notice.
- At least one piece of your invisible work becomes visible, where credit is actually possible.
- You carry less resentment, because you've stopped demanding the wrong thing from the wrong people.
