Why won't our demand gen pipeline run itself?

You keep launching. A new channel here, a new campaign there, a new tool when the last one went quiet. Each time it works a little, then fades, and your team starts over. That is not an engine. That is motion. An engine is boring by design. It is the same few plays, run by people who agree on what counts as progress, measured the same way every week. If your team cannot say, right now, what those plays are and who owns each one, you do not have a pipeline problem. You have an agreement problem. You cannot build this alone, and you should not try. Sit with your team and decide, together, what you will stop doing. That decision, not a new tactic, is the one that builds the engine.

Your team likely already knows the tactics; what's missing is the shared discipline to repeat and measure a few of them, so coaching carries more weight than teaching here.

What’s really going on

An engine is not discovered. It is built from a few plays you repeat on purpose. You do not lack a secret system — you lack the discipline to run the same plays long enough to learn which ones work. Choose three. Run them ninety days. Count what happens.

A movePick three channels or plays, not ten. Cut the rest this week.
A moveWrite the exact steps of one play, from first contact to booked meeting, so anyone on the team could run it.
A moveAssign one owner to each play's number — not the idea, the number.
A moveAgree as a team to run each play ninety days before judging it.
A moveMeet weekly to look only at the numbers. Save the opinions for another day.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A short, written playbook your team can run without you in the room.
  • Fewer campaigns, more repetition, clearer signal on what actually works.
  • One shared number your whole team checks every week.
  • Less dependence on any one person's memory or momentum.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
