What’s really going on

This is worth examining calmly, because the spending is not really about the things. Reason asks three questions the impulse avoids: whose approval are you actually buying, and what is it worth; what feeling are you truly reaching for that no object delivers; and do you see that status is a race with no finish line — a debt you pay forever? Step out of a game you cannot win, define your own enough by your own examined values, and let the others run. That freedom is worth more than anything the competition sells.
