You're anxious all the time and can't figure out why

A low hum of dread follows you through the day, and you cannot point to what is wrong. There is no crisis, no clear threat — just a constant unease in your chest and mind that will not lift, and the not-knowing-why makes it worse.

What’s really going on

Anxiety you cannot trace to a cause is unsettling precisely because the mind wants a reason — but the absence of one is itself a clue. Often this is a mind left too long on general alert, running its alarm with no particular fire; and an alarm left on can be turned down. Three things help: understand that free-floating dread means a state, not a hidden catastrophe; look plainly for the daily conditions that keep the alarm fueled — rest, stimulation, the inputs you feed it — since these can be found and changed; and meet the feeling in the body, softening what is braced, to tell an alarmed body the danger has passed. You are not unwell in some mysterious way. The alarm is simply on, and we can quiet it. When did the constant unease begin?
