I don't fear rejection anymore. Did I kill something I needed?
You dial fifty numbers a day. Rejection lands and you feel nothing — not bravery, not sting, just the next number. That used to cost you something. Now it doesn't. You call this progress, and it is. But you've noticed the same flatness creeping into places where feeling something used to matter. Here is the honest question: did you train yourself out of a fear, or out of feeling itself? Those are different achievements, and only one of them is worth keeping. You cannot answer this by introspection alone. You've already proven you can talk yourself into calm. What you need is a test — a place where the old fear would have shown up if it still lived in you.
Fearlessness on the phone is not wisdom by itself — it may be skill, or it may be armor grown so thick you can't feel anything underneath. You won't know by thinking about it. You'll know by testing whether the flatness is selective — gone only where it's useful — or whether it has spread to things you actually care about.
What changes unlock by starting
- A clear test result: whether your calm is a skill confined to sales calls, or a numbness spreading wider
- A short written record of what you actually feel, not what you assume you feel
- At least one place where feeling still clearly lives — proof the capacity isn't gone
- A concrete next step, including outside support if the numbness turns out to be spreading
