Place attachment — loving where you are

Place attachment is the bond between a person and a location that goes beyond preference — the way a particular hillside, river bend, or neighborhood street becomes part of the story you tell about yourself. Nasreddin loved his village despite its absurdities, its petty politics, and its occasional injustices — perhaps because of them, since they were his absurdities, after all. To love a place well is to know it well, and to know it well is to become responsible for it.
