Stillness Within Intensity

Finding a calm inner ground even as body temperature, emotions, and life circumstances intensify—a core Dipa Ma teaching applicable to menopausal intensity.

Dipa
Why It Matters

Dipa Ma was known for her ability to maintain profound inner stillness even amid external chaos and severe physical illness. Stillness, in her teaching, is not the absence of activity or sensation but a quality of non-reactivity underneath it all. During perimenopause, intensity is unavoidable: intense heat, intense emotions, intense life transitions. Rather than waiting for intensity to pass before you can be still, Dipa Ma's approach invites you to locate a deeper stillness running parallel to intensity. This might happen through meditation, conscious breathing, or simply pausing to notice the space between thoughts and sensations. When a hot flash arrives, underneath the physical intensity, can you find an observer that is untouched? This practice does not eliminate symptoms but changes your relationship to them, revealing that you contain both the storm and the sky.
