When a group wants to support each other's mental health
You are a group of people who want to be there for each other's mental wellbeing — a circle where the hard things can be spoken and everyone is a little less alone in their struggles. You want to build something real, not just surface check-ins, and to do it in a way that genuinely helps.
Building a circle to hold each other's mental health is a genuinely good thing, and a few principles make it truly helpful. First, make it safe to tell the truth — agree plainly that the real state of things can be said here without judgment or fixing, because the relief of being met with me too is much of the medicine, and everything else depends on this safety. Second, listen and witness rather than rush to fix — people most need to be heard, not solved, and advice given too soon can leave someone more alone. Third, know together when more help is needed — encourage each other toward professional help when a struggle is beyond the group, and know that urgent help is the loving thing if anyone is ever in danger. Support each other fully, and know the edge. Let us build it well. What do you most want this circle to be?
