How do I actually get customers in the door?

You say you don't know how to get customers. Look honestly — you know more than you admit. You've read something, tried something, thought about an ad or a post. What you actually lack is not knowledge. It is the habit of contact, repeated enough times to learn from it. No one opens the door for you while you wait to feel certain. The door opens because you knocked on it, badly at first, then less badly, then well enough. This is not comforting. It is simply true, and it is the only way the thing has ever worked for anyone. Stop searching for the plan that removes the discomfort of reaching out. There isn't one. There is only the next person you could contact today, and whether you choose to do it.

The basic methods for reaching customers are simple and quickly taught; the real obstacle is avoidance, so most of the work here is pushing the person into repeated action.

What’s really going on

You don't lack customers because you lack a secret. You lack them because you haven't yet done the plain, repeatable work of contacting real people. Choose one way to reach them. Do it five times this week. Judge yourself by the contacts you made, not by how ready you felt.

A movePick one way to reach people this week — a call, a message, a walk-in — and use it five times before you judge whether it works.
A moveWrite the exact words you'll say about what you offer. Say them out loud ten times before you use them on a real person.
A moveList ten people who already know you and could use or recommend what you sell. Contact three of them today, not tomorrow.
A moveTrack every contact you make, not every sale you close. For the first month, count actions, not results.
A moveAfter each attempt, write down what happened. Change one thing. Try again before the day ends if you can.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A real list of people you contacted this week, not just planned to contact.
  • One clear sentence describing what you offer, said without hesitating.
  • A written record of attempts that shows exactly where to adjust next.
  • Less fear of the first contact, because you've made it many times already.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
