How do I know when to override the AI instead of trust it?

You use the tools now. Good. But you have caught them wrong before — an answer that sounded right and wasn't. Now you wonder: how do I know, next time, before it costs me? Here is the honest part. The tool did not fail you. Your attention did. You read the output the way you read anything convenient — quickly, and hoping it was fine. That habit is the real risk, not the machine. This is not solved by finding a smarter tool. It is solved by choosing, each time, what deserves a hard look and what does not. That choice is yours to make, every single time you hit send.

The person already knows AI makes mistakes; what's missing is a disciplined habit for checking — that is built by practice, not more information.

What’s really going on

You already caught it wrong once. That means you have the eye. The question is not whether to trust the tool — it is whether you checked. Choose one rule: verify anything that touches money, health, or another person's trust. Everything else, read with open eyes, then decide.

A moveBefore you act on an answer, ask what it touches — money, someone's health, someone's trust. If it touches any of those, check it line by line.
A moveBuild a short list — three or four things — that you always verify in your own work. Never skip the list, even when you're rushed.
A moveKeep a record every time the tool is wrong. Read it back once a week. The pattern will show you where to look harder.
A movePick one task you do often. Decide now, in advance, how much checking it deserves. Don't decide in the moment, when you're tired and want to be done.
A moveAsk yourself before you send it out: would I put my name on this if it's wrong? If the answer is no, you already know you must check it.
