How do we trust AI tools when we can't tell if they're wrong?

You use the tool because it is fast. But fast is not the same as right, and you already suspect this — that is why you are uneasy. The unease is correct. Do not talk yourself out of it. The mistake is treating this as a private worry to manage alone. It is a team problem now. If one of you checks and three of you do not, the team has not solved anything — it has only moved the risk to where no one is watching. You cannot eliminate bias in the tool. You can decide, together, that nothing goes forward unverified. That is within your power. Build the habit, assign the task, and stop waiting to simply feel more confident.

They already grasp the risk conceptually; what they lack is a shared, repeatable team habit, so coaching on action outweighs teaching on bias mechanics.

What’s really going on

You do not solve this by trusting the tool more or less. You solve it by building a habit: someone always checks. Pick one person, every time, to trace the AI's claim back to a real source before it moves forward. The tool does not get the final word. You do.

A movePick one AI output your team used this week. Trace its central claim back to a real source, together, right now.
A moveAssign a rotating 'verifier' role for every decision that uses AI input — one person checks before it's shared.
A moveBefore you ask the tool anything, write down the answer you expect. After, compare. Notice where you were surprised.
A moveName the one area where a wrong answer would cost you most. Agree, as a team, that area always gets double-checked.
A moveRefuse, as a standing rule, to pass along anything none of you has personally verified.

What changes unlock by starting

  • A standing team habit of checking before sharing, not just hoping it's right.
  • Fewer unverified claims quietly entering your decisions and plans.
  • A shared, spoken standard for what counts as 'checked enough.'
  • Less background anxiety, because you now have a method instead of a worry.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
