If my business finally works, why can't I step away?

You say the business finally works. Look closer: it works because you never stop. That is not success. That is a leash with a better salary. You tell yourself this is temporary — that once something changes, you'll step back. You have told yourself that for years. The business didn't take your family's time. You handed it over, hour by hour, choosing it over them. The problem isn't that you work too much. The problem is that nothing in the business can run without you. You built a machine with one working part. That part is you.

The insight — you built an engine, not a business — can be named in a line; the real work is choosing what to hand off and doing it.

What’s really going on

You don't have a business. You have a job that eats your nights and your family's memory of you. It needs you every hour because you never built it to run without you. The fix isn't fewer hours. It's choosing, today, what only you can do — and handing off the rest.

A moveList every task only you can do — not what you prefer, what would actually break without you. Most lists are shorter than three items.
A moveChoose one task you've held onto out of fear, not need. Hand it to someone else this week.
A movePut a full day on the calendar that you will not work. Tell your family today, not just yourself.
A moveWrite down what you fear will happen if you vanish for a week. Read it back. Most of it is pride, not fact.
A moveTrain someone to do the task you fear losing most — not the easiest one.
