Should our team fear AI and deepfakes in our work?
Here is what is actually happening. AI-made work and faked video are showing up in your field, and your team has not agreed on what to do about it. Some of you want to ban it. Some are using it quietly and hoping no one asks. Nobody has said out loud what you're actually afraid of. Notice what the fear is really about. It is rarely the tool. It is the fear that you will no longer know what is true, or that your name will be attached to work you didn't really do. That fear is worth taking seriously. Panic is not. You did not choose that these tools exist. You do choose what your team tests, what it verifies, and what it stands behind. Start there, together, this week — not with a policy document, with one decision.
Fear changes nothing; understanding does. You cannot stop these tools from existing, so stop spending your strength on that fight. You can choose what your team becomes expert in: verifying what's real, vouching for your own work, and doing the human parts a machine cannot fake. Choose that instead.
What changes unlock by starting
- You know specifically which parts of your work AI threatens and which it doesn't.
- Your team has one clear, shared rule for using AI, instead of secret, separate decisions.
- You have a working method to catch a fake before it costs you trust.
- General fear turns into a short, specific list of things you actually control.
