Why can't I make myself network, even knowing it matters?

You tell yourself you will get to it. You do not. Weeks pass. You call this busy. It is not busy — it is avoidance wearing a work shirt. Look closer and you will find the real reason: you think reaching out makes you look needy, or fake, or small. So you protect your image and pay for it with your career. This is not caution. It is vanity dressed as humility. Your pod cannot make the call for you, but it can make you keep your word. Tell them what you will do this week. Let them ask if you did it. A promise made in private is easy to break. One made to people watching you is not.
