Why can't I teach my team to sell the way I sell?
You built your name by doing, not explaining. You closed deals by feel — a shift in tone, a pause, a read on the room. Now someone asks you to hand that over, and you find there is nothing to hand over. Only a fog. This is not failure. It is a different kind of work. Selling asks you to act. Teaching asks you to slow the action down until it breaks into pieces small enough for someone else to hold. You have never had to do this before. Of course it feels like defeat. Do this with your team, not alone in your head. One person cannot see their own blind spots; a pod can. Watch each other sell. Name what happened, out loud, in front of witnesses. That is where the steps get found.
You are not missing sales skill. You are missing a different one: turning instinct into steps. What you do without thinking, your team needs named and ordered. Stop performing the sale in front of them. Start writing down the small choices you make, one at a time. That is the whole task.
What changes unlock by starting
- You have a written list of the actual moves you make when you sell.
- Your team can name each step out loud, not just copy you.
- You catch yourself relying on 'feel' and stop to break it down instead.
- Coaching sessions stop feeling like failure and start feeling like practice.
