Why do I feel like a cog even though I hit my targets?
You hit your targets. Good. That was never the real question. The real question is whether you chose this work, or whether it was handed to you and you simply performed it well. The anxiety about ever climbing out is a story about a future you cannot control. What you can control is smaller and closer: the next task, the next conversation, the next hour. The machine did not steal your choice. You handed it over, piece by piece, because choosing felt harder than complying. You are not facing this alone, and that matters. A team stuck in the same grind can either agree to feel stuck together, or help each other spot where choice is still available. Use them for the second thing.
Hitting targets proves you can perform. It does not prove you chose the work. The grind feeling comes from handing your choices to the machine, one small one at a time. You will not think your way out. Find one task you can own completely, and ask your team to help you see where choice still exists.
What changes unlock by starting
- You will know the difference between busy and chosen.
- Your team will name at least one real point of choice you had stopped seeing.
- The anxiety will not disappear, but it will shrink to the size of this week's actual decisions.
- You will leave with one concrete action you own, not just one you completed.
