Why don't I understand what my QC steps are catching?

You run the steps. You check the box. But you could not tell someone what the box is for. That is not laziness. Nobody handed you the reason — only the procedure. A checklist without a reason is just obedience. You will follow it until you are tired, or rushed, or someone tells you it's fine to skip this once. Without the why, you have nothing to argue back with — not to them, not to yourself. The fix is not more discipline. It is one investigation at a time: what did this step catch before you arrived? Find that, and the step stops being a ritual.

The missing piece isn't information you lack, it's investigation you haven't done — so the page should mostly push action, not theory.

What’s really going on

Every step exists because something broke before you got here. You don't need a lecture — you need the failure behind the line. Pick one step you don't understand and go find what it was built to stop. Once you see the wound, the bandage stops feeling pointless.

🔒 What you’ll build togetherUnlock by starting
A movePick one QC step you follow without understanding. Today, ask someone who's been there longer, or search the record, what it was built to catch.
A moveNext time you see something go wrong — yours or someone else's — ask which step should have caught it. Write it down. That's your real checklist.
A moveStop treating the checklist as sacred. It's a record of someone else's mistake. Go find the mistake it records.
A moveWhen you're tempted to skip a step 'just this once,' say out loud what you're choosing to risk. If you can't name it, that's your answer.
A moveRewrite one step in your own plain words, including what it stops. If you can't write the second half, you don't understand it yet — go find out.

What changes unlock by starting

  • You can say, for at least one step, exactly what it protects against.
  • You stop skipping steps blindly when rushed, because you know the cost.
  • You can explain the checklist to a newer person without reading from it.
  • You start trusting your own judgment about when a step genuinely doesn't apply, instead of guessing.
One object, two jobs: a public answer to a real problem, and — the moment you start the chat — Aurelius’s live plan for your version of it.
