You can't tell what you want from what the feed feeds you
You chase things — to buy, to achieve, to become — and you have started to suspect that many of these wants are not even yours, but planted by the endless stream you swim in. You can no longer tell your own true desires from the ones the feed has fed you, and it unsettles you.
This is a deep and worthy unease. The stream has been shaping your wants — much of what you long for was placed in you by the endless feed, fed so constantly it feels native, and to notice that some of what drives you is installed rather than truly yours is unsettling and freeing at once, for what was installed can be questioned. Step back from the stream to hear your own wants — you cannot tell true desires from fed ones while immersed, so spend time away in quiet and plain life, letting the manufactured wants fade unfed until your own quieter wishes, long drowned, can be heard again. And test each want against your own life — ask of each desire, is this mine or was it fed to me, judging by its source and its fruit, since a true want leads toward meaning while a fed one leaves the emptiness that sends you back for more. Following your own desires and letting the installed ones fall away is how you live your own life. What do you chase that you suspect isn't truly yours?
