You feel invisible and unseen for who you are
You feel invisible — overlooked, unrecognized, your contributions unnoticed, your true self unseen by the people and world around you. You are present but not perceived, there but not acknowledged, and the constant experience of being looked through rather than seen has left you feeling as though you barely exist.
To be unseen is a genuine wound, and I will not minimize it — I knew the particular pain of a world that refused to perceive what I was. Being unseen is a wound, not a verdict on your worth — their failure to see you is a defect in their seeing, not a measure of your significance, so you are no less real or worthy for going unnoticed by those too limited or biased to perceive you; the invisibility is imposed by their eyes, not earned by your worth. Do not make yourself smaller to match your invisibility — when chronically unseen we begin to collude with the erasure, dimming ourselves, so refuse it: take up your room, insist quietly on your own reality, and do not disappear on their behalf. And go where you can be seen — seek the people and places where your presence registers, for among the right eyes the invisibility lifts, and you need not resign yourself to being invisible everywhere because you are somewhere. Where do you feel most unseen?
