The yin-yang symbol reveals that opposites aren't enemies—they're complementary necessities. Screen time is yang: active, stimulating, outward-directed, fast-paced. Health requires its yin counterpart: passive receptivity, quiet, inward reflection, slowness. Research on attention restoration theory confirms this: the brain recovers from digital stimulation through nature exposure and unstructured time. Laozi understood that imbalance—excess of either pole—creates pathology. Too much yang (constant connectivity) depletes attention capacity and deepens anxiety. The solution isn't eliminating screens but restoring yin practices: meditation, walking without phones, deep reading, face-to-face conversation. Notice that yin contains a dot of yang, and vice versa—complete separation is impossible and undesirable. Digital tools serve essential functions. The wisdom lies in ensuring that offline time receives equal or greater investment. When both poles are honored, neither dominates, and the whole system self-regulates.
