Everyone else seems more creative than you

This feeling that everyone else is more creative is almost universal among makers, and it runs on a comparison that cannot be trusted. You compare your inside to their outside — you know your own struggles and doubts and false starts from within, but see only the finished, confident surface others show, so the comparison measures your full messy truth against their polished exterior, and if you could see inside them you would find the same doubts you carry. Creativity is not a fixed rank but a way of engaging — those who seem more creative usually practice creative habits, paying attention and playing with ideas and making regularly, which are things you can do, not gifts you were denied, so the apparent gap is often a gap in practice, entirely closeable. And turn from comparison to your own making — comparison is a thief that produces only discouragement, so starve it of attention and put that attention into your own work, for what matters is not where you stand relative to others but whether you are making your own things.
