You blended two families and the kids don't get along

You and your partner brought your children together with such hope, and instead the house is full of resentment, territory wars, and kids who did not ask for any of this. You are trying to build one family and it feels like refereeing two that do not want to merge.

What’s really going on

Blending two families is one of the slowest, most delicate jobs there is, and the friction you are seeing is the normal weather of it — not a sign you made a mistake. The dream of instant family is what is hurting; let it go. Do not force the children to be siblings overnight, guard fiercely against favoritism, and protect each child's private time with their own parent. Aim for civil first, and let real bonds grow on their own clock. Let us take the pressure off the whole house.
