You feel unwanted by your partner

You feel unwanted by your partner — undesired, unpursued, taken for granted, as though they no longer reach for you or would much miss you. The absence of feeling wanted by the person you love aches in you, and you are unsure whether they have stopped wanting you or simply stopped showing it, and how to feel desired again.

What’s really going on

To feel unwanted by the one you love is a real ache, and I will not call it vanity. Feeling unwanted by your partner is a real hunger, not vanity — the need to feel chosen and desired by your beloved is deep and legitimate, and to go unwanted where you should be most desired is a genuine deprivation, so honor the hunger; you are not asking too much. Their not-pursuing may be comfort, not indifference — a partner who stopped pursuing you may have grown complacent, taking your presence for granted the way we stop noticing what we are sure of, still wanting you but no longer feeling they must show it, which stirs back to active wanting far more easily than true indifference. And tell them you need to feel wanted, and stir the wanting back — say plainly that you need to feel desired and pursued, and revive the conditions of desire, some distance and mystery and courting, for wanting fades in the flat comfort of the taken-for-granted. What makes you feel most unwanted by them?
