You feel worthless and can't shake it

A deep sense of your own worthlessness sits at the center of you — that you do not matter, that you have no value, that the world would be no worse without you. It colors everything, and no achievement or kind word seems able to touch it. You cannot shake the conviction that you are simply not worth much.

What’s really going on

I want to speak to this carefully, because worthlessness is one of the heaviest beliefs a person can carry, and it is not true. First, worthlessness is a feeling, not a measurement — generated by a mind in a low state, not an accurate read of your value, so you are feeling worthless, which is a distorting state, not discovering a fact. Second, human worth is not earned or lost by performance — you would not say a struggling friend or a child has lost their worth, and the feeling is measuring by a ruler that does not apply to the value of a person. Third, this belief is often too deep to lift alone, and there is no weakness in bringing it to a good therapist trained in exactly this. And if it ever brings thoughts of not wanting to be here, please reach for help now — a professional or a crisis line. You are not worthless, and you do not have to carry this alone. Where do you think this belief took root?
