You're burned out and have nothing left

You are running on empty — no energy, no enthusiasm, nothing left to give. Tasks that were once easy feel impossible, you are exhausted no matter how much you sleep, and you have started to feel numb and cynical about the things you used to care about. You are burned out, and you cannot push through anymore.

What’s really going on

Burnout is real and physical, and the first kindness is to stop blaming yourself for it. Three things. Burnout is depletion, not weakness — a system genuinely emptied by too much demand sustained too long, so pushing harder is exactly wrong, like whipping an exhausted animal. Recovery requires real rest, not just slightly less work — genuine restoration, and enough of it, since the depletion ran deep, and this is the necessary work now, not a luxury to earn once you are productive again. And you must change what burned you out — the pace, the boundaries never set, the demands you could not refuse — or a restored you is simply poured out again the same way. You cannot pour from an empty vessel, and only refilling makes it full. What emptied you out?
