You feel you should quit social media but you're afraid to

You sense social media is bad for you — the comparison, the time, the way it leaves you feeling — and part of you wants to quit. But you are afraid: of missing out, of losing touch, of disappearing from a world that lives online. So you stay, unhappy and unsure, unable to leave or to make peace with staying.

What’s really going on

This is worth thinking through calmly rather than staying stuck in the dread. Name honestly what you fear losing — missing others' lives, losing touch, vanishing, giving up connection or work — for these are not nothing, yet on honest inspection much of it may amount to less than it feels, and only by facing the true fear, neither dismissing nor inflating it, can you decide clearly. You need not choose all or nothing — the total pair is false; you might keep the few real connections and drop the rest, use it deliberately, remain reachable by other means, since the wise path is rarely the extreme one. And test it rather than deciding it forever — step away for a set stretch and observe what you truly miss and what fills the freed time, turning a fearful permanent vow into a small reversible experiment, letting experience rather than dread guide you. What do you most fear you'd lose by leaving?
