You're numb from too much news and information

You take in a constant flood of news, alerts, and information — the whole world's crises pouring through your screen all day — and instead of feeling more, you feel less: numb, overwhelmed, anxious and helpless at once. You cannot look away, and you cannot really feel it either.

What’s really going on

This numbness is worth understanding rather than judging. The mind was not made to hold the whole world's pain — you take in the sorrows of everywhere all day, and the result is not deeper caring but the natural shutting-down of a system asked to feel more than any heart can hold; your numbness is overwhelm, not coldness. And more knowing does not make more helping — knowing of a thousand distant sorrows you cannot touch does not help them, only harms you, so to attend more to what is within your reach is wisdom, not ignorance. So narrow the stream to what you can hold and act on — a little, from trusted sources, at chosen times — and give your care to the near and actionable where it does real good. Feel fully what you can help; let go of drowning in what you cannot. That is not turning away but turning your care where it counts. What floods in that you can do nothing about?
