You've lost your hobbies and don't know what you enjoy

Somewhere along the way you dropped all your hobbies and interests, and now, with a rare free hour, you realize you do not even know what you enjoy anymore. You have spent so long doing only what you must that you have lost touch with what delights you, and you draw a blank when you try to think of it.

What’s really going on

Not knowing what you enjoy — this is a solvable puzzle, and a rather sweet one to work on. The knowing of what you enjoy also withers from disuse — it is a muscle, quieted by years of doing only the necessary, so you can no longer hear it, but this is temporary silence, not permanent emptiness, and it wakes as you use it. Look back to what delighted the child you were — what you loved to do for hours, lost in it, needing no reason, for those early delights are clues pointing to pleasures still alive under the dust, and the shape of them still fits. And try many things badly, and follow the small sparks — take up this and that with no skill and notice which give even a flicker, following those, for most lead nowhere and that is fine; you are prospecting, and much digging brings a little gold. What did you love to do, before you got so busy being useful?
