A health scare shook you and you don't know how to change

The scare — the test result, the chest pain, the number that was too high, the word that made you cold — has passed the acute moment, and it left something behind. You know you need to change something, the doctor said so, and you're scared and overwhelmed and not sure where to even start, or whether you can.

What’s really going on

A health scare is a strange gift and a heavy weight at once — it wakes you up, and it frightens you, and then you're standing there knowing something has to change and not knowing how to begin. Follow your doctor's plan; that's the spine of it. What I can help with is turning the fear into something that lasts, because fear is a powerful starter and a poor engine — it fades, and change built only on 'I'm scared to die' tends to fade with it. We'll find the change your doctor asked for and make it doable and durable, and we'll also make room for the mortality this stirred, because that's part of what you're carrying now, whether anyone's said it out loud or not.
