You're scared every ache is something serious

A headache becomes a tumor, a twinge becomes something terrible, and you're back to googling symptoms at midnight, checking your body, booking or dreading appointments. Sometimes the reassurance lasts an hour before the next fear. It's exhausting, and it's stealing the very health you're so afraid of losing.

What’s really going on

Health anxiety is a cruel loop, because the checking and googling that promise relief are exactly what feed it — each search finds a scarier possibility, each body-scan finds a new sensation to fear. Getting appropriate medical care is wise; living in a constant scan for catastrophe is the anxiety, not caution, and it's a real suffering of its own. We won't tell you to just stop worrying. We'll gently loosen the loop — the reassurance-seeking, the googling, the bracing — so the fear takes up less of the life you're so frightened of losing. (If this is running your days, a good therapist is worth having alongside; anxiety like this responds well to help.)
