A loss shattered your sense of a good world
A loss — a death, a betrayal, a catastrophe — has shattered your sense that the world is good, safe, or trustworthy. The belief that held your life together has broken, and you find yourself in a world that suddenly seems dark, dangerous, and without the goodness you once assumed. You do not know how to live in a world that has proven it can break your heart.
When the world breaks the trust we placed in it, everything can seem to go dark, and I meet you in that darkness honestly, without pretending the loss away. The shattering of a false comfort can be the start of a truer faith — the belief that broke may have been, in part, an unspoken bargain that goodness or faith would protect you from great harm, and when such a bargain breaks it feels like everything collapsing, yet a deeper faith can grow in its place, one that does not depend on the world being safe. You can hold both the darkness and the goodness as real — the loss proves the world contains genuine horror, and it also still contains beauty and love the loss does not erase, so mature faith holds both at once rather than collapsing into all-dark or a forced all-good. And let love be your answer to a world that is not safe — the bravest thing is to love anyway, knowing what we love can be lost, for to stop loving so as to stop being hurt costs you the very thing that makes life worth its dangers. What did the loss shatter for you?
