You can't forgive them but you can't let go either

Someone hurt you deeply, and you are stuck — you cannot forgive them for what they did, and you cannot let go of them either, held fast between anger and love, resentment and longing. You are trapped in the middle, unable to release the grudge or the bond, and the stuckness is its own agony.

What’s really going on

This being stuck between anger and love is a real torment, and I will help you find the way out of the middle. You are caught between two halves of the same wound — the anger that will not let you forgive and the love that will not let you leave, both real, so you are not weak for feeling both at once; but the middle, forgiving nothing and releasing nothing, is the one place that offers no peace, and seeing that is the beginning of the way out. Forgiveness is for you, not for them — it is not a gift that excuses the wrong but a release that sets down the anger poisoning you, and you can forgive someone and still keep them out of your life and never trust them, for forgiveness is not reconciliation. And letting go is not forgetting, and it can be done while still hurting — to let go is a choice to loosen your grip even before the feelings resolve, so you need not be done hurting to begin. Choose to loosen your grip now. What did they do that you can't forgive?
