You feel disconnected from something larger than yourself
You feel disconnected from anything larger than yourself — alone in your own small life, cut off from any greater whole, any sense of belonging to something beyond you. You long to feel part of something vast and meaningful, connected to the sacred or the cosmos or the whole of life, but you feel only your own isolated smallness.
My oldest song is of the reed cut from the reed bed, crying for the home it remembers — so your disconnection is territory I know well. The sense of separation is itself a memory of connection — you would not feel exiled from a home you never had, so the ache of being cut off implies a belonging your heart recalls, a thread still tying you to the larger thing, for even in the feeling of disconnection something in you remembers. Connection is felt through presence, not achieved through thought — you are trying to reason your way back, but connection comes in moments of full presence, in awe before the vast, in deep attention, in the stillness where the separate self quiets, so cultivate presence rather than argument and let the belonging beneath be felt. And connect through the near before reaching for the vast — the way to the cosmic belonging often runs through a single person loved, the natural world at hand, the community, which are not lesser substitutes but the doorways through which the larger connection becomes real. Remember, grow present, begin near. When did you last feel part of something larger?
