You feel you don't deserve to be happy
Deep down you feel you do not deserve happiness — that you have not earned it, are not good enough for it, that joy is for other, worthier people. So you hold yourself back from it, denying yourself the delight you secretly long for, sentenced by your own judgment to a life kept carefully short of happiness.
This is a heavy belief to carry, and even a fool will handle it gently. Happiness is not a wage paid only to the deserving — it is more like the sun, which shines on deserving and undeserving alike, asking no one to prove their worth first, and the whole idea that joy must be earned is a strange and cruel invention that would sentence nearly everyone to gloom. The belief you are unworthy is usually a wound, not a truth — planted early by a message received or a love that felt conditional, it feels like a fair verdict and is actually an old injury speaking, one you would never apply to someone you loved. And let yourself be happy anyway, and let it heal the belief — take the joy despite feeling undeserving, and each time the sky does not fall the unworthiness weakens, for letting yourself be happy is what finally heals the belief that you could not. If this belief is deep and old, a good therapist can help you carry it. Where do you think it took root?
