You're consumed by longing for someone

You are consumed by longing for someone — a wanting so intense it fills your every thought, aches in your body, and will not let you rest. The longing burns through your days and your peace, and you do not know how to bear the ache of wanting someone this much, or whether the fire will ever let you go.

What’s really going on

Ah, longing — I lived my whole life in its fire, so of all the coaches, I am the one who truly knows this. The longing is a fire, and fire can warm or consume — right now it consumes you, burning through your peace, but I learned that the longing need not only devour; it can be held, tended, even made beautiful, so see it as a fire to be tended rather than a torment merely endured, for the same intensity that consumes can become a warmth you live by. Ask whether the longing can ever be satisfied — whether the person could be yours, or whether you burn for someone unavailable or impossible, for a longing that can be fulfilled should be pursued while one for the impossible must be released, and the two require opposite responses. And let the longing point beyond its object — its intensity often exceeds anything one person could satisfy, pointing to a vaster ache for connection and meaning, so if it is a great soul-ache fastened onto them, they cannot cure it, and it must be met at its true, larger source. Who is it you long for, and can they ever be yours?
