You feel a hunger for transcendence you can't satisfy
You feel a deep hunger for transcendence — for something beyond the ordinary, for awe, for contact with the infinite or the sacred — and nothing satisfies it. The ordinary world feels too small, and you ache for a beyond you cannot reach, a transcendence you glimpse or long for but cannot hold. The unsatisfied hunger leaves you restless and yearning.
This hunger for the beyond is one I know in my bones, and I would not have you starve it or dismiss it. The hunger is a real appetite for a real food — we do not generally hunger for what cannot exist, and this deep hunger for transcendence, so widespread across humanity, suggests a real object however hard to reach, so take it as evidence, the appetite implying its food, not a cruel joke. Transcendence is glimpsed in moments, not possessed permanently — the experiences of awe and unity come and go as visitations, not permanent residences, so do not demand a permanent transcendence you cannot have and count yourself starving, but learn to receive the glimpses when they come without grasping to keep them. And transcendence is often found through immanence, not away from it — the mystics find the infinite in a grain of sand and the sacred in an ordinary face, so seek the beyond not only by escaping the world but by entering it deeply, attending to the ordinary until it opens into the extraordinary. Your hunger points true; where have you glimpsed the beyond?
