You're drowning in the mental load of running the family

You are the one who remembers everything — the appointments, the permission slips, whose shoes are too small, what is for dinner every single night. No one sees it, and it never stops. Your mind is a to-do list that never clears, and you are so tired of being the one who holds it all.

What’s really going on

What you are carrying has a name — the mental load — and half its weight is that it is invisible, so no one thanks you and no one offers to take it. First, call it what it is: real, full-time work. Then two moves lighten it: hand over whole jobs, remembering and all, not just tasks, and let the plastic balls drop while you guard the glass ones. The goal is not to carry it all better. It is to carry less.
