You're so tired but you can't sleep

You're wrecked by the end of the day, and then you lie down and your body won't let go. The mind starts up, the clock ticks, you calculate how few hours are left, and the trying-harder makes it worse. Exhausted and wired at the same time, night after night.

Half practical — the habits and setup that let sleep come (knowledge) — half the harder work of the anxious mind that fights it (guidance). Private. (Ongoing insomnia is worth a doctor's look too.)

What’s really going on

The cruelest part of insomnia is that the harder you try to sleep, the further it goes — because trying is a kind of alertness, and sleep only comes when you stop chasing it. If this has gone on for weeks, it's worth a doctor ruling out the physical causes. But so much of it is the anxious loop: you dread the bad night, which keeps you awake, which gives you more to dread. We'll gentle the setup and, more importantly, take the pressure off — because a body that isn't braced for failure is a body that can finally rest. You don't have to force it. We'll make room for it instead.
